Developing a color-coding system can make it easier to navigate your book and notes.
My technique utilizes 6 main colors to break down a CPT code, but feel free to experiment with your own color system.

Example:

  • Placing a colored bubble around the parent and child codes can help you quickly distinguish between different CPT code groupings.

  • Using a “X’s” next to a code and circling the word “each” in the code can help you quickly recognize which codes can by reported multiple times.

  • work Relative Value Units, or wRVU’s (i.e., “0.30”). If you’re studying for your CPB or CPC, you probably won’t need to write these in your book. If you want to learn more about RVUs and their significance in coding, click here.
